Pediatric intensive care nurses are in a league of their own. I have witnessed first hand the compassion and empathy they have shown us and my son. It made me wonder what they have to do to prepare themselves before they go to work. A lot of them are young nurses, at varying stages in their life and career. Most with children of their own. Being an adult with responsibilities is already challenging. How could they carry our burden as well? They have life-saving protocols and procedures they have to learn and apply in their work everyday. Nursing has evolved so much and in my humble opinion as important as the doctors that they work alongside. They do their best to advocate for their patients every single day they show up.
